To secure long-term, successful reforestation, A Billion Trees is committed to supporting the labour-intensive, time-consuming (and often costly) maintenance of reforested landscapes. €5 donation covers the seed collection, growing, planting and protection, guaranteeing a new forest to help biodiversity and tackle climate change, because in many semi-arid restoration projects, fewer than half of planted trees survive. Ongoing care is vital in the first years after planting, local work force’s are employed to clear all surrounding grasses, and other competing vegetation to enhance tree survival rates. Saplings are nurtured, with careful monitoring to ensure successful establishment. A Billion Trees ensure that any trees that do not survive are replaced.
